Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Tuesday that the club will be running its 50/50 fundraising program online on ‘Caps match days throughout the MLS is Back Tournament.
Proceeds from the 50/50 online program will be donated to Covenant House Vancouver and their ongoing work to improve the lives of Vancouver’s homeless and at-risk youth.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support from Whitecaps FC and their dedicated fans,” said Allison Briggs, development officer of community giving for Covenant House Vancouver. “The funding we receive from the 50/50 program is critical right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will ensure some of our most vulnerable young people’s immediate needs are met; having a warm bed, nutritious food, access to counselling and so much more."
50/50 raffle tickets will be available at whitecapsfc.com/5050tickets beginning at 6 a.m. on match day and will be live all day through to 9:30 p.m. The ‘Caps play on the following days:
- Wednesday, July 15: Whitecaps FC vs. San Jose Earthquakes (6 p.m. PT)
- Sunday, July 19: Whitecaps FC vs. Seattle Sounders FC (7:30 p.m. PT)
- Thursday, July 23: Whitecaps FC vs. Chicago Fire FC (6 a.m. PT)
On each match day, the winning ticket will be announced shortly after 10 p.m. PT via @WhitecapsFC on Twitter and whitecapsfc.com/community/5050-program. Any additional program dates during the MLS is Back Tournament will be announced.
Whitecaps FC have participated in various Covenant House Vancouver initiatives throughout the years. Players, executives and staff have participated in several Sleep Out events, spending a night on the street to demonstrate their commitment to alleviating homelessness. The club has also hosted an annual #BuckUp for Mental Health campaign to raise funds via raffles, auctions and donations. As a result of the club’s community efforts, well over $345,000 has been donated to Covenant House Vancouver to date.
