VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Inbeom Hwang has been called up to the Korea Republic men’s national team for a pair of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month following the conclusion of the MLS regular season.
The Taegeuk Warriors host Sri Lanka at Hwaseong Sports Complex on October 10, then travel north of the border to face the Democratic People's Republic of Korea national team at Kim Il-sung Stadium five days later.
A native of Daejeon, Hwang returns to international duty after making a full 90-minute appearance in their 2-0 victory at Turkmenistan to open their AFC second round of World Cup qualification competition earlier this month.
The four aforementioned countries are joined by Lebanon in Group H. The group winner and the four best group runners-up advance to the third round of FIFA World Cup qualification as well as qualify for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup finals.
Hwang, who was recently honoured with the club’s Most Promising Male Player award, has one goal in 17 caps since making his international debut in September 2018.
