Canada qualifies for Concacaf Gold Cup and Nations League A with 4-1 win over French Guiana at BC Place

VANCOUVER, BC – Canada’s men’s national team defeated French Guiana 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at BC Place to earn a spot in the 2019 Gold Cup and Group A of the 2019-20 Concacaf Nations League. Lucas Cavallini bagged a brace for Canada, while Junior Hoilett and Jonathan David each had a goal and an assist.

Three Vancouver Whitecaps FC players appeared in the match.


Centre backs Doneil Henry and Derek Cornelius started and played the full 90 minutes, while midfielder Russell Teibert played 30 minutes as a second-half sub.


Prior to the match, Cornelius was presented with the 2018 Canadian Youth International Player of the Year award. Alphonso Davies, who made the trip but did not play due to injury, was also honoured with the 2018 Canadian Player of the Year award.


Canada concludes Concacaf Nations League qualifying with a perfect 4W-0L-0D record, scoring 18 goals and conceding just one.


The draw for Nations League will be held this Wednesday, March 27, while the groups and full schedule for the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup will be announced on April 10.
