VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC have requested a review of the red card shown to Kendall Waston in the 13th minute of last Saturday's 4-1 road loss to Atlanta United FC.
The send-off occurred following a play involving Waston and Atlanta defender Leandro González Pirez on an Atlanta free kick in the first half.
The appeal has been supported by the Major League Soccer Players Association.
The independent panel comprised of one member of US Soccer, one member of Canada Soccer, and one member of the Professional Referee Organization will oversee the review of any player send-off appeal.
If the appeal is upheld, then the red card will be rescinded and the 'Caps retain their two appeals for 2018. If the appeal is rejected, Waston will serve a suspension due to a red card, and the 'Caps will have lost one of their two appeals for the 2018 season. Waston is away on international duty for this coming Saturday's match against LA Galaxy.
