VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC continue to bolster their roster ahead of their March 4 season opener, adding experienced right back Sean Franklin as a free agent on Thursday, pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
Franklin, a two-time MLS Cup winner, agreed to an MLS contract through 2018. The 10-year MLS defender has been with the team since the second week of preseason camp, as Whitecaps FC prepare to kick off the regular season at BC Place in 10 days.
"Sean is an experienced player and a proven winner," said head coach Carl Robinson. "He's won trophies in LA, and that's what we're trying to do here. He brings a little bit of competition to the right back slot which is what we need. This will make our younger players better and keep them on their toes. Sean will play an important role for us this year."
