Whitecaps FC select Creighton Bluejays fullback Lucas Stauffer 26th overall in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Vancouver Whitecaps FC selected fullback Lucas Stauffer in the second round (26th overall) of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft on Friday.

Stauffer, 22, made 86 appearances for the Creighton University Bluejays over the last four years, recording nine goals and 12 assists.  


This past season, Stauffer was named to All-Big East Conference First Team for the second straight year, as well as the United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-Great Lakes Region Second Team. The 5-foot-6 fullback, who has also played in midfield, was also named to the Big East Conference All-Rookie Team in 2014.


Stauffer also competed in the USL Premier Development League with Portland Timbers U-23 in 2014, Ocala Stampede in 2015, and with Des Moines Menace the past two seasons, making 26 combined appearances and tallying two assists.


Prior to his collegiate career, Stauffer played for Shattuck-St. Mary’s Academy, internationally in Denmark for Club Vejle Boldklub and for Dutch clubs Vitesse and FC Twente, and was a member of the US men’s national futsal team – the youngest player in the program’s history when he joined the roster at age 16.
