It’s already been a busy offseason for Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Here’s a rundown of all the club’s transactions since the end of their 2017 MLS campaign, including the acquisitions of strikers Kei Kamara and Anthony Blondell. Keep tabs on this page throughout the offseason as the ‘Caps continue to build their roster for 2018.
January 10, 2018: Whitecaps FC re-sign midfielder Marco Bustos to an 18-month contract extension (with options for the second half of 2019 as well as the 2020 and 2021 seasons) and loan him to Mexican side Club Atlético Zacatepec, with an option to purchase, through June 30, 2019.
January 8, 2018: Whitecaps FC acquire D.C. United’s natural 2018 second round MLS SuperDraft selection (26th overall) in exchange for the MLS rights to goalkeeper David Ousted. Per the conditions of the agreement, should Ousted be traded to another MLS team prior to the 2018 roster freeze, Whitecaps FC would receive $100,000 in General Allocation Money. Whitecaps FC will also retain 50 per cent of any future transfer fees.
January 8, 2018: Whitecaps FC transfer Homegrown defender Sam Adekugbe to Norwegian Eliteserien club Vålerenga Fotball. As part of the agreement, Whitecaps FC will receive a percentage of any future transfer fees.
December 22, 2017: Whitecaps FC acquire Canadian international and former West Ham United FC centre back Doneil Henry via the MLS Allocation Process. Henry is signed through 2018 with club options until 2020.
December 21, 2017: Whitecaps FC acquire $100,000 in 2018 Targeted Allocation Money from Colorado Rapids in exchange for defender Deklan Wynne. Midfielder Matías Laba opts out of the 2017 MLS Re-Entry Draft – Stage 2, Whitecaps FC maintain Laba’s MLS rights.
December 15, 2017: Whitecaps FC acquire goalkeeper Brian Rowe from LA Galaxy in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft. Goalkeeper David Ousted opts out of the 2017 MLS Re-Entry Draft – Stage 1, Whitecaps FC maintain Ousted’s MLS rights.
December 13, 2017: Whitecaps FC sign 20-year-old striker Myer Bevan to an MLS contract for 2018 with club options until 2021. Bevan, a New Zealand international, also holds Canadian citizenship and will therefore count as a domestic player for Whitecaps FC.
December 10, 2017: Whitecaps FC acquire two-time MLS all-star striker Kei Kamara from New England Revolution in exchange for Vancouver's 2019 natural first round SuperDraft pick and a conditional 2020 second round SuperDraft selection.
December 6, 2017: Whitecaps FC re-sign Homegrown midfielder Russell Teibert through 2020.
December 1, 2017: Whitecaps FC sign Residency product David Norman Jr. as a Homegrown player for 2018 with club options until 2021.
November 30, 2017: Whitecaps FC acquire striker Anthony Blondell from Venezuelan Primera División side Monagas SC and sign the 23-year-old to an MLS contract through 2020, with a club option for 2021. Whitecaps FC acquire the MLS first right of refusal to Blondell from FC Dallas for $50,000 in General Allocation Money. Blondell led the Venezuelan Primera División in goals in 2017.
November 27, 2017: Whitecaps FC exercise the 2018 contract options on defenders Sam Adekugbe, Marcel de Jong, Brett Levis, Jake Nerwinski, Tim Parker, and Kendall Waston, as well as midfielder Tony Tchani.
November 27, 2017: Whitecaps FC decline the 2018 contract options on goalkeeper David Ousted, defenders David Edgar, Cole Seiler, Sheanon Williams, midfielders Christian Bolaños, Marco Bustos, Nosa Igiebor, Matías Laba, Ben McKendry, Mauro Rosales, Russell Teibert, as well as striker Kyle Greig. The club confirms it is still in talks with Bolaños, Bustos, Edgar, Igiebor, Laba, and Teibert.
November 22, 2017: Whitecaps FC loan goalkeeper Spencer Richey to USL side FC Cincinnati through December 31, 2018.
