Reyna nominated for 2017 MLS Newcomer of the Year award

Major League Soccer revealed today the ballot for the 2017 MLS Newcomer of the Year award, which includes up to two nominees from each club.

The Vancouver Whitecaps FC player on the ballot is Yordy Reyna.

Reyna, 24, joined the ‘Caps in the preseason and impressed in limited action before suffering a fifth metatarsal fracture of his left foot, keeping him out of action until July. Reyna’s return has coincided with Vancouver’s rise up the Western Conference table.

The Peruvian attacking midfielder has five goals, all game-winners, and three assists in just nine starts and 16 appearances. And the ‘Caps have lost just one of his nine starts (5W-1L-3D).

Players, technical staffers (technical directors, GMs and coaches) and a select group of national and regional media will begin voting for each of the awards on Tuesday, October 17. Each voting group, representing one-third of the total vote, will have until Monday, October 23 at 2 p.m. PT to submit their votes. Finalists (three per award) will be announced on Tuesday, October 31.
