Time to go back into the vault.
On this day in history back in 2005, Vancouver Whitecaps FC defeated English Premier League Club Sunderland AFC 3-0 in an international friendly at Swangard Stadium. Former striker and current TSN Radio personality Carlo Corazzin led the way for the ‘Caps with a goal and an assist, while Joey Gjertsen and Jason Jordan also found the back of the net.
It was a notable game for a few different reasons.
For starters, it was Vancouver’s first win over a major European side in the post-NASL era. Interestingly, it was also Carl Robinson’s first visit to Vancouver – he was a player for Sunderland at the time.
You might be wondering why we’re talking about this now. Well, speaking of international friendlies against English Premier League teams, the ‘Caps are set to face Crystal Palace FC on Tuesday night at BC Place (tickets are still available).
Is another big win the cards?
