“Vancouver has become a second home for my family,” Ousted said. “I am thankful to the fans and club for the commitment and support they have provided since we arrived two and half years ago. I am proud of what we have been able to accomplish and excited about what the future holds.”
Ousted, 31, was acquired as a free agent by Whitecaps FC in June 2013. He made his debut for Vancouver on August 3, 2013, and has played every minute in goal in MLS competition for the club since.
The native of Greve, Denmark played his finest season yet in 2015, finishing second in voting for the 2015 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year award. He was also selected to the MLS All-Star Game, where he kept a second-half clean sheet in a 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur. Ousted was named the MLS Player of the Month for June, the only goalkeeper to receive the honour last season.
The three-year MLS veteran manned the net for a 'Caps side that conceded the fewest goals in MLS (tied with Seattle Sounders FC). Ousted recorded a league-best three penalty saves, 13 clean sheets (tied for the league-high), and 16 wins (second in MLS). He was a four-time MLS Save of the Week winner and had four saves up for MLS Save of the Year. In the MLS Cup Playoffs, Ousted started both legs of the Western Conference Semifinal versus Portland Timbers, recording a clean sheet in the first leg.
Last August, the 6-foot-4 goalkeeper started the decisive second leg of the Amway Canadian Championship final versus Montreal Impact, recording a shutout to help the ‘Caps win their first-ever Voyageurs Cup.
Ousted holds a number of the club's all-time MLS regular season records, including most career wins (32) and most career clean sheets (30), and holds the club's ironman record with 81 consecutive regular season appearances.
The re-signing of Ousted is the latest of a number of key transactions by the club prior to the start of the 2016 season, having already re-signed defender Kendall Waston and midfielder Matías Laba to contract extensions, completed the transfer and signing of midfielders Deybi Flores and Cristian Techera, while acquiring defenders Fraser Aird and Cole Seiler, midfielder Christian Bolaños and strikers Masato Kudo and Blas Pérez.
Whitecaps FC open the 2016 MLS regular season on Sunday, March 6 against Montreal Impact.
