An open letter from Whitecaps FC 2 head coach Alan Koch

Alan Koch Black and White

Dear fans,

There are so many people to thank this season, but I’d like to start by personally thanking you the fans. The loyal following at Thunderbird Stadium has made playing at home a special place to come to work. You’ve made a very positive impact on the development of our young players, and your support has only increased their hunger to continue playing in front of you, both at Thunderbird Stadium and at BC Place.

I’d also like to thank my assistant coaches Steve Meadley and Raegyn Hall, team management Dave Irvine and Aman Parhar, Lisa Modica-Amore in business operations, Ryan Leaver and our medical staff, and our equipment manager Marty McDermott for all of their extra efforts in helping our team throughout our first season. Special mention should go to our facilities crew and business operations for transforming Thunderbird Stadium into a Whitecaps FC home on match days.

Our group of players, one of the youngest in the entire league, emerged as one of the most exciting teams in our conference. The competitive USL environment has provided us with games that challenge our team and provide our players with professional opportunities. The ability to play a part in our team’s emergence this season and the development of some of our club’s young players is something that our USL staff all take great pride in.

From providing professional debuts to some of our MLS and USL players to recently introducing a trio of 1998 born players to professional football, it has been a season of true growth for WFC2. Our squad has improved significantly as the season has progressed and I feel that we have an excellent base to build from as we start to prepare for next season.

I am extremely proud to be part of our club player pathway and look forward to continuing to work with our players next season. We will continue to focus on trying to win in every match while also focusing on providing development opportunities for our players. It is a privilege to lead this team and to feel the unconditional support of our fans at home and on the road is truly an honour.

I’d like to thank our ownership group and executives, and the first team technical staff for the opportunity to lead your inaugural WFC2 team. In a season of ups and downs, we can reflect back on numerous successes with outstanding team victories and significant individual player growth.

See you Sunday,
