VANCOUVER, BC – David Ousted is the MLS Player of the Month for June.
Ousted, 30, takes home the honours after twice earning MLS Team of the Week this month while securing three straight road victories to take his league-leading win total to 10. In that time, Ousted earned his seventh clean sheet (tied for second most in MLS) in a 1-0 win at defending MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy, snapping their 29-game home-unbeaten streak in all competitions.
Next up, Ousted stopped two penalty kicks at New York Red Bulls, including the MLS Save of the Week, to help the Blue and White take a 2-1 result.
The Danish shot stopper came up big again in his latest performance, making eight saves on the way to ending New England Revolution’s 19-game home unbeaten streak this past weekend. In that 2-1 win, Ousted also produced yet another MLS Save of the Week nominee.
The Vancouver Whitecaps FC goalkeeper collected 37.9 per cent of the vote, beating out Toronto FC midfielder Sebastian Giovinco (20.4%), Philadelphia Union striker C.J. Sapong (15.6%), Portland Timbers striker Fanendo Adi (14.1%), and San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Matias Perez Garcia (11.8%) in a fan vote on MLSsoccer.com.
Ousted is the second Whitecaps FC player to earn Player of the Month honours this season – Octavio Rivero took home the award in March. The last goalkeeper to win MLS Player of the Month was Eric Kronberg in June of last year.
The ‘Caps conclude their season-long five-match road trip on Saturday vs. Colorado Rapids (6 p.m. PT on TSN), before returning home to face Sporting Kansas City on July 12 at BC Place.
