The field for the 2018 FIFA World Cup is starting to take shape.
Eight teams have booked their ticket to Russia after the most recent qualifiers: Mexico, Brazil, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Russia (host nation) and Belgium.
Although Mexico is the lone team from CONCACAF to have qualified to date, Costa Rica have all but secured their berth after a 1-1 draw with Mexico on Wednesday night. Both Christian Bolaños and Kendall Waston got the start for the Ticos.
Each team has two matches remaining. The top three teams will gain an automatic berth to Russia, while the fourth place team will advance to an inter-confederation playoff for the final berth. The final two qualifiers will be played next month.
