Vancouver Whitecaps FC have partnered with the Total Soccer Excellence (TSE) Academy in the Yukon to launch an official Whitecaps FC Academy Centre program. Boys and girls U-9 to U-16 have the opportunity to participate in the program with limited spots available.
The Academy programming will be led by Vancouver-based Whitecaps FC coaching staff, with the main goal to help develop a stronger connection to the soccer community in Whitehorse and the surrounding areas.
“We are excited to build on previous programming that we have run in the Yukon by establishing a concrete partnership that will allow the club to assist in the development of the young talent in the Territory,” said Marinos Papageorgopoulos, Whitecaps FC Academy Centre director. “Players in the area will also have the opportunity to be identified to participate in our regional High Potential Player (HPP) events in the future.”
“TSE Academy wants to thank Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and sees this partnership as a great opportunity for players in the Territory,” added TSE Academy director Jake Hanson. “It’s a very positive step towards exposing all of our interested soccer players in the Yukon to the standards of a professional club environment while being able to hopefully connect some of our top talent into future higher-level opportunities in the game.”
The first Academy event will take place from September 21 to 23 in Whitehorse at Porter Creek Secondary School. The Academy provides supplemental training for motivated boys and girls in a professional club environment. The initial launch will include five training sessions, with a potential classroom session.
