VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Thursday that the club has waived defender Érik Godoy.
“We are very thankful to Érik for all his contributions at the club as he played a key role during his time in Vancouver,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. “Following an open conversation with Érik, all parties agreed that this is the right time for him and our club to move in different directions. We will continue to support Érik as he looks for a new club and we wish him all the best in the next step of his career.”
Godoy, 28, started 62 of his 68 appearances across all competitions for the club from 2019 to 2022, scoring four goals. The native of Buenos Aires, Argentina started all six of his appearances across all competitions this season.
In his debut season with the club, Godoy was presented the 2019 Jock MacDonald Unsung Hero Award at the BMO Player Awards Ceremony after starting 30 of his 31 appearances across all competitions, netting a goal in his ‘Caps debut against Minnesota United FC.
