MATCH NOTES
This is the second match of a two-leg semifinal series in the 2012 Amway Canadian Championship, with Whitecaps FC holding a 2-0 aggregate advantage following last week’s first leg at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Alberta. Tonight’s match is also the second all-time meeting between Whitecaps FC and FC Edmonton, who play in the second-tier North American Soccer League (NASL), and the first time The ‘Caps have hosted The Eddies. However, this evening’s match is the 38th time Whitecaps FC have played a team from Edmonton, and the 66th time Vancouver have face opposition from the province of Alberta, since 1979. The last time Whitecaps FC hosted a club from Edmonton was in the United Soccer Leagues First Division (USL-1) on July 4, 2004, as the now-defunct Edmonton Aviators defeated Vancouver 3-2 at Swangard Stadium.
