VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Monday that the club has acquired general allocation money, targeted allocation money, and an international roster spot for the 2017 season from Portland Timbers in exchange for striker Darren Mattocks.
As part of the trade, Whitecaps FC will receive a percentage of any future transfer proceeds if the player is transferred out of the league.
"We're grateful for Darren's four years of service with the club," said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. "He brought a lot of excitement to our team coming in as a young player. We wish him the best in Portland."
Mattocks was selected by Whitecaps FC with the second overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft after playing two years with the University of Akron.
Over his four seasons in Vancouver, the Jamaican striker scored 20 goals and collected six assists in 96 MLS regular season and MLS Cup Playoffs appearances, which includes 53 starts.
Outside of MLS competition, Mattocks made six starts in 11 appearances in the Amway Canadian Championship and added two goals. In addition, the 25-year old recorded one assist in his three 2015-16 CONCACAF Champions League starts.
