VANCOUVER, BC – There’s no place like home.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC will host New York City FC on Saturday, March 5 in their 2022 MLS home opener at BC Place. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. PT.
Prior to their home opener, Whitecaps FC will open their 2022 season on the road at 2020 MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew on Saturday, February 26. Kickoff for that match is set for 12:30 p.m. PT. It will be the ‘Caps first match at the recently built Lower.com Field. The remainder of the 2022 MLS regular season will be announced in the coming weeks.
“For us, today is the first day of the 2022 season and with our great run after returning home this year, we are excited to now prepare for a new season that will allow us to play right from the beginning in front of our fans at BC Place," said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. "We are looking forward to our home opener and to sing together with our fans ‘Stand By Me’ after the game.”
The ‘Caps ended the 2021 MLS regular season in front of 25,117 fans at BC Place, securing a spot in the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2017. In their nine home matches in Vancouver, the Blue & White a league best home winning percentage of .830 with a record of 7W-1L-1D.

This will be the first Vancouver MLS home opener for Newcomer of the Year finalist Ryan Gauld, ‘Caps regular season goal scoring leader Brian White, as well as all three U22 Initiative signings in Caio Alexandre, Deiber Caicedo and Pedro Vite.
New York City FC finished in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 51 points, featuring MLS Golden Boot winner Valentín Castellanos who led the league with 19 goals scored. New York has qualified for the playoffs for six consecutive seasons after missing the postseason in their inaugural year.
Whitecaps FC and NYCFC have consistently played high scoring and entertaining matches in their brief series. Four of the five matchups have included at least four goals scored, with four of the five matches featuring two or more lead changes.
The two sides last played in 2019, a 3-1 win for New York at BC Place. Overall, the ‘Caps have a 1W-3L-1D record in five matches against NYCFC since they joined the league in 2015.
