VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that young striker Caleb Clarke has been called up to Canada's senior men’s national team for their upcoming international friendlies against the Czech Republic and Slovenia. Clarke, who is currently on a year-long loan with German Bundesliga club FC Augsburg II, replaces forward Iain Hume.
Canada's camp got underway in Bat Waltersdof, Austria on November 10 in preparation for the two upcoming matches. The Red and White will first travel to face the Czech Republic in Olomouc on November 15, before squaring off against Slovenia in Celje on November 19.
Kickoff for Canada's friendly vs. the Czech Republic is set for Friday at 8 a.m. PT. They will then meet Slovenia on Tuesday at 9 a.m. PT. Sportsnet ONE will carry both matches live.
Clarke, 20, will be participating in his first senior camp with Canada, although he was scheduled to participate in October's camp but had to withdraw with a minor injury. The Whitecaps FC Residency graduate has previously been involved with Canada at the U-18 and U-20 levels. Early this year, the Richmond, BC, native played in the CONCACAF Men’s Under-20 Championship in Puebla, Mexico from February 17 to March 1. The talented striker registered two goals in the tournament in a 5-1 triumph over Nicaragua on February 22.
As a member of FC Augsburg's U-23 side, Clarke has enjoyed a successful campaign thus far, scoring four goals while distributing six assists in 13 appearances.
The Canadian camp will include a number of familiar faces for Clarke, as he will join fellow Whitecaps FC teammate Russell Teibert, as well as Whitecaps FC Residency graduates Kyle Porter (D.C. United) and Adam Straith (SV Wehen Wiesbaden).
