It was an unbeaten weekend for Vancouver Whitecaps FC. In addition to wins in MLS and USL, the ‘Caps U-18 squad won versus Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers while the U-16s finished up with a 1-1 draw.
U-18
With the playoffs fast approaching, Whitecaps FC U-18 built positive momentum with a 3-0 win over the Timbers U-18s.

scored in the first half as the ‘Caps were comfortable in possession and went into the break ahead 1-0. Jones then added another in the second half, as well as a goal from
Dario Conte
for a 3-0 final score.
“It was pleasing to see another strong overall team performance,” said U-18 head coach Rich Fagan. “We’re forging forward as we head towards the playoffs, and we’ll use the final regular season match as a springboard to continue momentum.”

U-16
The U-16s have already wrapped up the Northwest Division title, but they’re still fighting for the best possible seed entering the United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) playoffs.
On Sunday, they were very unfortunate to only come away with a draw against their Pacific Northwest rivals Portland Timbers after every a dominant display.
The ‘Caps suffered an eighth minute setback when a defensive lapse in concentration led to the opening goal from the Timbers. The Blue and White responded magnificently but a combination of good goalkeeping and poor finishing had them trailing 1-0 at halftime.
As the game went on, the ‘Caps started to tighten their grip on the game and were duly rewarded on 65 minutes when
Daniel Sagno
was put through by an exquisite reverse pass from Munir Saleh and Sagno finished with aplomb.
"I was pleased again today,” said U-16 head coach Adam Day. “We were the better side, created lots of opportunities. We were tested mentally to keep doing the right things against some frustrating situations, but I felt we handled it quite well and continued to play our way when we were 1-0 down, at 1-1, and right up until the last whistle. All of which are an important trait of a good team, and we will need to show patience at times when we go to the USSDA playoffs. Overall, it was another pleasing display."
