BURNABY, BC - It was an undefeated day for Whitecaps FC Residency against Cascadia rivals Sounders FC Academy on Saturday. The U-18s played to a 0-0 draw, while the U-16s won 3-1.
U-18
In a back-and-forth rivalry match that saw both teams issued a red card, Whitecaps FC U-18 finished in a 0-0 draw against Sounders FC U-18.
The ‘Caps had several first half chances, including a header goal from Andre Baires on a free kick that was called back offside.
Early in the second half the Sounders were issued a red card and the ‘Caps pressed for a winner. But on 70 minutes, Baires was shown his second yellow card of the match to bring both teams to 10 men.
Nothing came of the change in numbers as the match ended 0-0.
“I’m pleased with the overall performance,” said U-18 Residency head coach Rich Fagan. “We created enough chances to win, which was most pleasing. It was good to secure another important point in the division. We’re going in the right direction.”

U-16
It was a winning start for new U-16 head coach Adam Day over Sounders FC U-16.
Two goals from Cole Morokovich and one goal from George Mukumbilwa led the U-16 ‘Caps to a 3-1 win over their cross-border rivals.
The first goal came from a great individual effort from Morokhovich after he cut in on the left, beat a pair of defenders and cooly placed the ball into the far corner.
Another fine effort saw Morokhovich come from the right hand side and move into a one-on-one in the box, and ending with a smart finish again into the far corner for a 2-0 lead.
The last tally for the 'Caps started with some good work from Alan Camacho, delivering a ball to the far post for George Mukumbilwa who rose to head it into the back of the net for a 3-1 win.
"It was a really pleasing start," said Day after his first match in charge. "I thought at times the boys played with some real quality and looked to get on the ball and combine. There are some things we will obviously look to improve on, but overall a good performance and good result against our Cascadia rivals."
