VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency teams split a pair of matches against Crossfire Premier on Saturday as the U-18 squad won 2-0 while the U-16s fell 4-1 following a red card. Both matches were played at South Surrey Athletic Park during the annual Whitecaps FC Showcase.
U-18
Whitecaps FC U-18 Residency finished strong at home against Crossfire Premier as they continue their push for the playoffs. Leading scorers Marco Bustos and Kianz Froese put the ‘Caps on top 2-0 while goalkeeper Nolan Wirth collected the clean sheet.
Despite being in control for the duration of the match, the 'Caps could not break through until the 88th minute. Froese finally broke the deadlock before Bustos added a tally in added time for the win.
"We had set the objective to improve on our performance from last Sunday,” U-18 assistant coach Steve Meadley told whitecapsfc.com. “One focus was definitely to improve defensively. We feel we did that. Obviously we're very happy with the clean sheet. Overall, the performance we thought was very good. It felt like forever for the goals to come, but we did in the last five minutes with two quality finishes from two quality players."
