Whitecaps FC Residency program to remain based out of Burnaby for 2013-14 cycle

Residency huddle

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the club’s full-time Residency program will remain based out of Burnaby for the 2013-14 cycle.

“After careful consideration, we have decided to maintain operations in Burnaby this next year in order to maintain consistency and ensure our high program standards are met,” said Dan Lenarduzzi, Whitecaps FC director of soccer development. “While we are excited to have our Residency program and first team together at our UBC facility, it is important that all factors are in place in order to have a positive and successful transition.”

For the 2013-14 cycle, Whitecaps FC youth development programs will consolidate training to the club’s regional training centre at Simon Fraser University (SFU) – part of the National Soccer Development Centre (NSDC). At SFU, Whitecaps FC will have exclusive use of Field #4, access to medical facilities, equipment, and all other required amenities to deliver a professional high performance development program. This will allow Whitecaps FC to operate the Residency, Pre-Residency and Girls Elite programs out of one location.

During the 2013-14 cycle, Residency players will continue to attend Burnaby Central Secondary School and will remain at their Burnaby billet homes.
