On a day where all three Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency teams played their Cascadia rivals from Seattle, the U-16 and U-14 teams led the way for the Blue and White.
U-18
In the opening match, Whitecaps FC U-18 Residency (12W-2L-3D) conceded late, allowing Seattle Sounders FC (12W-4L-1D) to get all three points and gain ground on the Northwest Division-leading ‘Caps.
Seattle opened the scoring 10 minutes into the match from an in-swinging free kick that was redirected in by the head of a Seattle defender who joined the play.
The Blue and White didn’t give up after allowing an early goal and began to settle in. They forced the Seattle keeper to make several big saves, keeping Vancouver off the scoreboard in the first half.
The second half was similar to the first as both teams knew what it meant to win this derby match.
In the second half,
Francesco Saporito
subbed into the match. The midfielder rewarded his coach’s decision by scoring five minutes after entering.
Late in the second half Seattle pulled ahead for good after stripping the ball from the ‘Caps backline.
"The boys were fired up for this rivalry match, and the Sounders were clearly motivated with MLS head coach Sigi Schmid watching," noted U-18 coach Niall Thompson. "We deserved a better result, but I can't fault the effort."

A strong performance from Whitecaps FC U-16 Residency (11W-2L-4D) earned them a 3-1 win against their Sounders FC counterparts (7W-7L-3D) on Saturday afternoon.
Gloire Amanda
scored the ‘Caps first, while
Daniel Sagno
added two of his own.
The first Whitecaps FC goal came from a clever combination of passing between Amanda and Sagno before Amanda finished.
The Blue and Whites second goal came when Sagno stood over a direct
free
kick, he bent the ball around the wall and dipped into the bottom the right corner.
Vancouver’s third goal was
started
when
Terrell Smith
sent a long diagonal pass to Sagno, who used his first touch to get past the defender before passing the ball in the bottom corner of the net.
Coach Rich Fagan spoke at the end of the match. “I’m pleased with the team's performance today," noted Fagan. "They deserved the positive result.”

Pre-Residency Coach Bart Choufour was happy with the performance “It was a good game, we performed well,” noted Choufour. “It gets harder and harder every time. We have seen Seattle a lot this season.”
