With the first month of the 2016 Major League Soccer regular season in the books, it’s time to reveal our first Whitecaps FC Player of the Month, presented by Coldwell Banker.
Taking the honours is Whitecaps FC captain Pedro Morales.
Morales received 47 per cent of the vote, just edging out Whitecaps FC left back Jordan Harvey (41 per cent) as well as centre back Kendall Waston (12 per cent).
The Chilean scored a league-high four goals during the month of March, all from the penalty spot, and added one assist. He also led the team with 265 touches and seven chances created and had the third most tackles (nine).
“It’s not just his penalties but his all-around play,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. “He’s setting the tone for the team at the moment. He’s rubbing off on people. His all-around performance with the ball and without the ball has been exceptional. When you’re in a rhythm, when you’re in a groove and you’re playing well, the game becomes easy. And at the moment the game is easy with him, but he’s put in a lot of hard work as well.”

The Whitecaps FC Youth Player of the Month for March is Pre-Residency midfielder

The North Vancouver native joined the club in 2012 and has showed continued growth. Kobza was one of 10 Whitecaps FC players called up to a Canada Soccer 2001-born national identification camp in February and received strong reviews from national coaching staff. He returned from the camp and continued to perform well with the club’s U-14 team.

“Since I’ve been here coaching, Eryk has consistently shown improvement every week," said Whitecaps FC Pre-Residency head coach Robert Earnshaw. "He has one of the best football brains in our group. Eryk receives information, understands our feedback, and implements it into his performance. He has been a joy to coach.”
