HONOLULU, HAWAII – Vancouver Whitecaps FC open their 2018 preseason schedule on Tuesday afternoon against Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo of the Japanese first division.
Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. PT (3:30 p.m. local) at the University of Hawaii at Manoa training pitch.

Tuesday’s match serves as a pre-tournament friendly ahead of the first annual Pacific Rim Cup, which begins on Thursday. Whitecaps FC open the tournament against Japanese side Iwaki FC on Thursday at 7 p.m. PT (5 p.m. local) before facing either Columbus Crew SC or Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo in the championship or third-place match on Saturday.
Both matches will be played at Aloha Stadium and streamed live on whitecapsfc.com.
ABOUT HOKKAIDO CONSADOLE SAPPORO
Hokkaido Consadole are six-time Japanese League Two champions, most recently winning the title in 2016. They are entering their second season in the Japanese first division, known as the J1 League. The player to watch is Jay Bothroyd, a 35-year-old English striker who is best known for his time at Cardiff City FC. Bothroyd scored a team-high 10 goals in 14 matches last season. Hokkaido Consadole's roster also features Japan national team legend Junichi Inamoto, who has played in three FIFA World Cups.
