Whitecaps FC Okanagan Academy Centre host Inter-Academy tournament

This past Friday, October 24, Whitecaps FC Okanagan Academy Centre hosted the first ever Inter-Academy Centre girls 8v8 tournament in Vernon.

"This was the first time that we have ever run something of this kind and it was certainly a huge success and something we will look to do again in the future on a larger scale," said David Broadhurst, Whitecaps FC Okanagan Academy Centre head coach.

The tournament included four teams: the Okanagan Academy U-14 Prospects girls and U-13/14 Okanagan School Academy girls teams, as well as the Kootenay Academy U-13 and U-14 girls prospects.

Each team played a total of three 40-minute. In the end, it was the Okanagan School Academy who ended up as winners of the tournament, winning all three of their matches.

"Overall it was a fantastic day with some excellent soccer being played by all four teams," added Broadhurst. "It was great to bring two of seven academy centres together and provide a chance for the players to put into practice everything they have been working on in training."

"It was great to see how far they have come in terms of development," added Kootenay Academy Centre head coach Brett Adams. "To play against players who have been in our academy system for a few years, and who are playing for Thompson Okanagan FC in the BC Soccer Premier League, and be very competitive against them was a great sign of where they are going. There is some real talent being produced."
