VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC are proud to announce that the club's nominee for the 2014 MLS W.O.R.K.S. Community MVP contest is William “Bill” Yoachim, the Executive Director of Kw’umut Lelum Child and Family Services and an elected member of Chief and Council for Snuneymuxw First Nation.
The MLS WORKS Community MVP contest is a league-wide contest that acknowledges someone who is committed to making a difference in their local community. The winner receives $10,000 to the charity of their choice and an all-expenses paid trip to the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game at Providence Park on August 6, 2014 in Portland, Oregon.
Yoachim was chosen as Vancouver Whitecaps FC’s Community MVP for his passionate and tireless advocacy for Aboriginal children and youth, and his commitment to improve life conditions for future generations. Bill is also the co-founder and a key organizer of the annual Hope and Health movement, an event put on in partnership with Vancouver Whitecaps FC that utilizes soccer to inspire hope and health across communities.
"It is a great honour to represent a first class organization such as Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the beautiful Province of British Columbia as our community MVP," said Yoachim. "The Hope and Health initiative utilizes soccer to build resilience with children and youth and bridge communities. It is a perfect fit to benefit from the Community MVP program and we need your help voting to win it!"
“We are thrilled to have Bill Yoachim represent Vancouver in the 2014 MLS Community MVP contest,” said Rachel Lewis, Whitecaps FC chief operating officer. “We encourage all of our fans to vote for Bill and help him win $10,000 for a well deserving community initiative. We are proud to support Bill’s quest to be the MLS Community MVP.”
Bill is up against 18 other Community MVPs in the journey to become the 2014 MLS WORKS Community MVP.
