Earlier this year, Whitecaps FC partnered with the PGYSA to launch a Northern Academy Centre aimed at developing young players in the region. Programming began in July, with an evaluation camp for the Prospects Academy, and a Skills Camp for boys and girls from U-7 to U-14. Currently, 83 boys and girls are registered in the academy.

During their visit on Tuesday, the Lenarduzzis checked in on the progress being made at the Whitecaps FC Northern Academy. An appearance was also made at a University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) men's soccer team training session.

Whitecaps FC Academy Centres are a network of regional Whitecaps FC training hubs linked through key staff, curriculum, and standards that provide professional supplemental club training for serious, motivated players. The Whitecaps FC Academy Centre network now totals six locations, including the Northern Academy, Vancouver Island, Vancouver, the Okanagan, the Kootenays, and Saskatchewan – the latter being the first such centre outside of British Columbia.
