VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Tuesday that the club has loaned goalkeeper Evan Newton to USL Championship side El Paso Locomotive FC through the end of the 2022 season.
“This is a good fit for Evan and the club,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. “We are in the process of targeting a goalkeeper to round out our group.”
Newton, 33, was in the ‘Caps lineup as an unused substitute for 14 matches in 2021. The native of Virginia Beach, Virginia joined the ‘Caps in 2021 following seven seasons as a starter in the USL Championship with Indy Eleven, FC Cincinnati, Sacramento Republic FC, Oklahoma City FC, and Arizona United SC. Newton also spent time with MLS clubs Houston Dynamo, San Jose Earthquakes, and New York City FC.
Founded in 2018, El Paso Locomotive FC made their debut in the 2019 USL Championship season and has made the playoffs in each of their three seasons.
TRANSACTION: On January 25, 2021 Whitecaps FC loan Evan Newton to El Paso Locomotive FC through the end of the 2022 USL Championship season.
