VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Tuesday that fullback Justin Fiddes has been loaned to the club's United Soccer League affiliate Fresno FC through the end of 2018, with an option to recall during the next International Transfer Window – July 10 to August 8.
"Justin has exhibited potential, and it would benefit him to get some game minutes," said head coach Carl Robinson. "They have a great staff down in Fresno and we'll be keeping close tabs on how he progresses."
Fiddes will be joining WFC Residency products Matthew Baldisimo, Terran Campbell, and Noah Verhoeven, as well as fellow 2018 SuperDraft selection Cory Brown and assistant coach Robert Earnshaw on Fresno FC, who currently sit 2W-1L-5D in their first season of USL competition.
Fiddes, 22, was selected 17th overall in the first round of the 2018 MLS SuperDraft in January after four years at the University of Washington. The defender signed an MLS contract last month after participating in preseason for Whitecaps FC, joining the team in camp in Hawaii and California.
As part of the agreement with Fresno FC, Whitecaps FC have the ability to assign players to USL contracts to play at the California club, while all players on the roster will be monitored and evaluated for MLS opportunities, as well as call-ups on the USL Short Term Agreement.
Whitecaps FC look for consecutive wins when they visit Minnesota United FC at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday, May 5. Kickoff is at 11 a.m. PT live on CTV/TSN1 and TSN Radio 1040.
