Vancouver Whitecaps FC continue their preseason schedule on Saturday with a closed-door scrimmage vs. LA Galaxy. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. PT at Dignity Health Sports Park. There will be no live stream available – follow Whitecaps FC on Twitter for live updates and post-match coverage.
The original match, scheduled to be played at Orange County Great Park, was cancelled due to inclement weather and unplayable field conditions.
This will be Vancouver’s third preseason test of 2019 after defeats to Japanese sides V-Varen Nagasaki and Iwaki FC last week as part of the Pacific Rim Cup in Hawaii. Whitecaps FC head coach Marc Dos Santos said a big focus in Hawaii was getting a look at the young Academy and development group players coming through the ranks.
Now, with most of the first-team group together, the focus shifts to preparing for March 2.
“I want to see the core players that are here right now start to gel together and give them more minutes,” Dos Santos said this week. “In Hawaii, many subs were made in games. Now you won’t find that much in LA. We’re going to focus on these games like they’re league games and start giving rhythm and minutes to all of those players.”
Whitecaps FC will also play a closed-door scrimmage vs. Liga MX side Club Tijuana on Wednesday, before concluding the preseason next Saturday against LAFC. The ‘Caps open their 2019 MLS regular season campaign against Minnesota United FC on March 2 at BC Place.
