VANCOUVER, BC – Whitecaps FC confirmed on Friday that the club has waived and exercised its one offseason Buyout of a Guaranteed Contract on Gianfranco Facchineri. The centre back will no longer occupy a spot on the team’s roster or count against the 2022 salary budget.
“We are thankful to Gianfranco for his time at the club and wish him all the best in the future," said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director.
Facchineri joined the Whitecaps FC BMO MLS Academy in August 2018 and signed an MLS first team contract in January 2020. In 2021, Facchineri spent time on loan with Canadian Premier League side Atlético Ottawa and last year with USL Championship side San Diego Loyal SC.
