This coming Friday, April 6, marks the start of the first annual Whitecaps FC Cup, as girls and boys teams from U-11 to U-14 converge at Surrey’s Newton Athletic Park throughout Easter weekend.
“We’re very excited to kick off the inaugural Whitecaps FC Cup,” said Dan Lenarduzzi, Whitecaps FC director of soccer development. “This is shaping up to be a magnificent event at a top class facility at Newton Athletic Park, with the gracious support of host clubs Central City Breakers and Surrey FC. Not only will we see some great matches, but also a number of fun activities and events throughout the weekend.”
Participating teams have been split into nine divisions, each named after a Whitecaps FC MLS player. U-11 boys teams will play in the Hassli Division and Camilo Division, U-12 boys teams in the Cannon Division and DeMerit Division, U-13 boys in the Chiumiento Division, U-13/14 boys in the Le Toux Division, U-14 boys in the Rochat Division, U-11 girls in the Koffie Division and U-12 girls in the Tan Division. Matches begin on Friday and run until Sunday, April 8, when tournament finals will be played. The full match schedule for the weekend can be found HERE.
In addition to the action on the field, there will be interactive games and contests, such as a piñata shooting challenge, face painting, juggling demonstration, prize draw, and a Whitecaps FC Cup team challenge involving a mix of trivia and skill. Adding to the fun will be appearances from Whitecaps FC players, as well as mascot Spike!
