VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC will celebrate Fan Appreciation Night this coming Sunday, October 27, as the club concludes their third season in Major League Soccer. This weekend’s match will mark a historic milestone for the club, as the one millionth fan to attend a Whitecaps FC MLS match will be welcomed through the gates. The lucky guest will have their seats upgraded and will receive a visit from club representatives where they will be presented with a special prize package, including a team signed ‘Caps scarf, a Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 courtesy of Bell, and at the end of the match, a jersey off the back of a Whitecaps FC player.
Sunday will also be a momentous occasion for Whitecaps FC defender Young-Pyo Lee. The South Korean defender has announced that this will be the final professional match of his distinguished career before retiring at season’s end. The club will recognize Lee prior to kickoff.
As part of the pre-match festivities, Whitecaps FC will hold a presentation for the Cascadia Cup, which the ’Caps won this month for a record fourth time over Pacific Northwest rivals Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders FC. The Cascadia Cup, a supporters-run trophy, will later be displayed on the concourse for fans to visit. BC Place will also be it up in white, blue, and green, in honour of the ‘Caps Cascadia Cup triumph.
Fan Appreciation activations will take place before, during, and after Sunday’s match. With Kia as the match night sponsor, the first 7,000 fans to arrive at the match will receive a Whitecaps FC Kia toque upon entry. As the match night sponsor, Kia will also hold a halftime contest where one fan will win a 2014 Kia Rivalry Road Trip to Seattle.
Merchandise will also be discounted at BC Place for Sunday's match - $30 blue and brown jerseys, $15 hoodies, $10 shirts, and $5 hats.
Several rewards have also been earned by fans using their ‘Caps Card points as part of the club’s Loyalty Program. The rewards include:
- Food & beverage vouchers
- Behind-the-scene tours with the team
- The opportunity to star in the lead-in video to the singing of "White is the Colour"
- Announcement of the starting 11 over the PA
- The opportunity to lead the team out to the field before the match
- A suite upgrade for a fan and their friends

Prior to the match, fans are encouraged to bring their gently-used soccer boots to ‘Caps Kickoff to be donated in support of VI Coast Salish Hope and Health. In exchange for their soccer cleats, donors will receive entry into a raffle to win one of four pairs of boots autographed by Darren Mattocks, Kenny Miller, Camilo Sanvezzo, and Matt Watson.
After the match, 28 lucky fans – including the ‘Caps Card Loyalty rewards winners and the one millionth fan – will be invited down to the pitch to receive the jerseys off Whitecaps FC players’ backs. Whitecaps FC hosts will find the lucky winners during the match. Fans are encouraged to stay in their seats at the conclusion of Sunday's match for the jerseys off the back presentation, which will include an end-of-year retrospective video and an address by team captain Jay DeMerit. One lucky fan will be selected live to win Jay DeMerit's match-worn jersey.
