In support of VI Coast Salish Hope and Health in partnership with the Vancouver Island Coast Salish community, Whitecaps FC will be holding a boot drive on Sunday, October 27, prior to the match against Colorado Rapids.
Gently-used boots will be collected at ‘Caps Kickoff from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. PT. In exchange for old soccer cleats, donors will receive entry into a raffle to win one of four pairs of boots autographed by Kenny Miller, Camilo Sanvezzo, Matt Watson, and Darren Mattocks. The four raffle winners will be located in their seats during the match to receive their prize.
All donations will benefit the children and youth associated with the Hope and Heath Initiative, which is a shared initiative between Kw’umut Lelum and Lalum’utul' Smun’eem Child and Family service Agencies. Hope and Health aims to inspire active living and personal leadership amongst the children and youth in foster care.
“Hope and Health is about creating opportunities for the children and youth, but also for the families of Coast Salish communities,” said William Yoachim, executive director of Kw’umut Lelum Child and Family Services. “We’re very honoured to have this relationship with Whitecaps FC.”
Earlier this year, Whitecaps FC participated in a two-day Hope and Health Soccer Extravaganza in Ladysmith, BC. The event drew more than 600 community members, and included keynote speeches from Vancouver Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie, and defenders Jay DeMerit, Andy O’Brien, and Jordan Harvey. Day two followed with skills, drills, and coaching and goalkeeper clinics.
Whitecaps FC encourage all of the club’s fans and supporters in attendance to work together to donate to the Boot Drive and support VI Coast Salish Hope and Health on Sunday, October 27.
