CARSON, CA - Lucas Cavallini scored his first goal of the preseason on Tuesday as Vancouver Whitecaps FC fell 4-1 to LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park.
The Canadian striker, who caused problems with his press all afternoon, found the back of the net in the 49th minute. After a nice build-up down the left, Cavallini got in behind, chested down a cross from David Milinković, and combined with Inbeom Hwang to get the 'Caps on the board.
But the Galaxy scored a pair of goals in each half to seal the victory.
Whitecaps FC head coach Marc Dos Santos made two changes to his starting lineup after Saturday’s 4-1 win over FC Dallas, inserting Fredy Montero and Jasser Khmiri in place of Ryan Raposo (back pain) and Andy Rose. Khmiri, who was making his preseason debut, played the first 40 minutes as he works his way up to full fitness.
Goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau was the only 'Caps starter to play 90 minutes.
The ‘Caps, who conclude their California slate with a 1W-1L-1D record, will now return home for just over a week before heading to Portland for their final three preseason matches. Whitecaps FC open the 2020 MLS regular season against Sporting Kansas City on February 29 at BC Place – visit whitecapsfc.com/tickets for ticket information.
