BURNABY, BC – Whitecaps FC 2 fell to a 4-3 loss against Western Conference side LA Galaxy II in MLS NEXT Pro action at Swangard Stadium this Sunday evening.
The first half began quickly for Galaxy II as they would open the scoring within the second minute of the match. Carson Klein’s cross inside the box connected to Aaron Bibout’s header, giving his squad an early 1-0 advantage.
As the match progressed, the away side would find an opportunity in the final third with Alex Alcalá, his attempt on target was met by a reactionary save from goalkeeper Max Anchor in the 32nd minute.
Right before the halftime interval, an Antoine Coupland corner kick was headed off the crossbar by Finn Linder. Gloire Amanda was there to head in the rebound and level the match in the 44th minute.
Early in the second half, J.C. Ngando sent in a cross to the box and the ball would find its way to Jay Herdman. The midfielder's header skimmed through the box to Kamron Habibullah, as the forward gave his squad a 2-1 lead in the 51st minute of the match.
The away side responded in a fast manner moments later. Bibout’s strike would find the back of the net in the 56th minute.
Only three minutes later, Bibout’s header inside the area would be initially saved by Anchor, only for Paulo Rudisill’s rebound attempt finding the back of the net to give his squad the advantage in the 59th minute.
WFC2 would later on tie the game in the 75th minute. Coupland’s cross from the right side of the field connected to Giovanni Aguilar, as the captain's header made it 3-3 for the young ‘Caps.
With the match nearing its end, Bibout completed his hat trick in the 88th minute of the match to earn the visiting side the victory.
The Blue & White continue their homestand as they host Minnesota United FC 2 at Swangard Stadium this upcoming Sunday, April 23 with kickoff set for 7 p.m. PT. Tickets are complimentary for Whitecaps FC MLS season ticket members, or $10 at the gate.
