VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Friday that the club has transferred forward Sergio Córdova to Turkish side Alanyaspor. Vancouver will also retain a percentage of future transfer fees.
“Over the past couple weeks, there’s been increased interest in Sergio from clubs abroad, which is credit to him. We received an offer from Alanyaspor that matched what we were looking for and it was also an opportunity that Sergio was interested in pursuing,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. “We are thankful for his service at the club and wish Sergio all the best in the future.”
Córdova, 26, joined the ‘Caps in February via transfer from German side FC Augsburg. The Venezuelan international went on to start 14 of his 26 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring four goals and adding one assist.
Founded in 1948, Alanyaspor competes in the Turkish Süper Lig and is based out of the city of Alanya
