Vancouver Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson has penned a message to fans in The Province ahead of tonight’s CONCACAF Champions League semifinal vs. Tigres UANL at BC Place (7 p.m. PT – tickets still available). Read a snippet of Robinson's letter below and click here to read it in its entirety.
On Wednesday night at B.C. Place, we have a chance to make history.
It’s not going to be easy. As I said to media after our win over LA Galaxy on the weekend, someone recently told me it was “Mission Impossible.” No one is giving us a chance, but guess what?
No one probably gave us a chance to get to this stage of the competition.
I like proving people wrong. Actually, I love it. And so do my players.
These are the types of games we want to be a part of. It’s a chance to put ourselves on the map. It’s a chance to test ourselves against some of the best players and coaches in the world.
And some of the best fans, too.
When we played down in Mexico a few weeks ago, the stadium was rocking. I don’t think they stopped singing for the entire 90 minutes. That’s the kind of atmosphere we love seeing and hearing from our supporters week in, week out at B.C. Place.
For us to have a chance, we’re going to need you to be loud. Really loud. Let’s make this an uncomfortable night for the Mexican champions. Let’s show them how we support in Vancouver. This is our turf — not theirs. Hopefully, we’ll give you something to shout about.
We want to make history. For this club. For this city. For this country.
A country I’m proud to call my own.
