Homegrown.
That single word encapsulates Ben McKendry to a tee. Born and raised in Vancouver, the 22-year-old midfielder spent five years within the ‘Caps youth program before going off to college.
And this past offseason, McKendry returned home to sign a Homegrown contract with his boyhood club. So far this season, McKendry has been a mainstay with Whitecaps FC 2. He’s the only player to have started every match and will likely be in the fold again this weekend when the baby ‘Caps take on Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC 2 at UBC Thunderbird Stadium.
