The Costa Rican national team concluded the 2016 Copa América Centenario with an upset 3-2 win over South American powerhouse Colombia on Saturday night in Houston.
Vancouver Whitecaps FC centre back Kendall Waston and midfielder Christian Bolaños both started the match and played the full 90 minutes. Bolaños, who represented Costa Rica at two FIFA World Cups, actually helped set up the game-winner with this fabulous chip pass.

It was a big win for Costa Rica – their first against Colombia since 1963 as well as their first in a Copa América – but it wasn’t enough to get them out of the group stage. Costa Rica finished third in Group A behind first-place U.S. and second-place Colombia with a 1W-1L-1D record.
Bolaños and Waston will now return to Vancouver ahead of next Saturday’s match vs. New England Revolution (4 p.m. PT at BC Place – tickets still available).
Waston has a two-match suspension and won’t be eligible to return to MLS play until July 4 at LA Galaxy. He could, however, participate in the two-leg Amway Canadian Championship Final vs. Toronto FC on June 21 and June 29.
