EA Sports revealed today that Waston is one of five players who will receive special International Hero upgrades in FIFA 18 after helping their respective nations qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. On Saturday night, the Vancouver Whitecaps FC captain scored a dramatic 95th-minute header against Honduras to seal Costa Rica’s second straight World Cup qualification.
Waston is joined by Lionel Messi (Argentina/Barcelona), Gylfi Sigurdsson (Iceland/Everton), Mohamed Salah (Egypt/Liverpool), and Roman Torres (Panama/Seattle Sounders FC). Waston’s upgraded card, which bumped his rating up to 80 from 74, is available in FIFA 18 Ultimate Team.
Waston will return to Vancouver this week ahead of Sunday’s match against San Jose Earthquakes (4:30 p.m. PT on TSN1 – limited tickets are still available).
