VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Saturday that the club has transferred midfielder Caio Alexandre to Brazilian side Fortaleza EC. The transfer was activated after Alexandre met performance triggers during his loan. The ‘Caps also received a sell-on fee as Alexandre was subsequently transferred to Brazilian side Esporte Clube Bahia.
“When we extended Caio’s loan with Fortaleza, we structured it in a way to benefit all parties,” said Axel Schuster, Whitecaps FC sporting director. “We are pleased to have finalized this transfer and wish Caio all the best in this next chapter of his career.”
Alexandre originally joined Fortaleza in August 2022 on a loan initially through to the end of the year. In December 2022, the native of Duque de Caxias, Brazil had his loan extended through to the end of 2023.
Prior to joining Fortaleza, Alexandre made five appearances across all competitions for Whitecaps FC in 2022 after recovering from a fifth metatarsal fracture in his left foot and a left-hand fracture. In 2021, the midfielder started 11 of his 15 appearances across all competitions for the club, recording one assist. Alexandre was acquired by Vancouver via transfer in March 2021 from Brazilian side Botafogo FR.
