After scoring three goals in his first four MLS matches, Vancouver Whitecaps FC striker Octavio Rivero has been nominated for MLS Player of the Month.

“There was a little hype around this Uruguayan striker coming into the season. So far he has lived up to all of it. Rivero has led the line for the Whitecaps as they have captured wins in each of the last three games. The Designated Player has scored three goals in the Caps' four games, including late game-winners against Chicago and Orlando City.”

And his latest goal ran away with MLS Goal of the Week honours. It’s not all about the goals, though.

Rivero’s hold-up play and work rate has been top notch. The 23-year-old has also created eight chances for his teammates, which is second in MLS among out-and-out strikers. More on that here.
