“Four months ago, an opportunity was brought to us to bring a Whitecaps FC USL PRO team to the city of New Westminster. Today, we are disappointed by city council's decision not to proceed with this proposal.
We truly appreciate the support we received from members of the New Westminster community and are thankful to those residents and businesses – as well as our supporters – for all of their efforts.
Our vision remains strong, and we believe in the importance of fielding a USL PRO team. Prior to signing the Memorandum of Understanding with the City of New Westminster in July, we were in discussions with other municipalities and will continue those discussions immediately. We are focused on finding a great home for our USL PRO team starting in 2015.”
