SAN DIEGO, CA – Whitecaps FC arrived in San Diego on Saturday and will take to the pitch this afternoon as they get set for four games over 12 days in Southern California.
The ’Caps preseason travel roster features 31 players including 23 MLS roster players. The eight camp invitees include two members from last year’s roster in Isaac Boehmer and Tosaint Ricketts, two 2022 MLS SuperDraft selections in Giovanni Aguilar and Simon Becher, as well as four members from the club’s U-23 side in Ali Ahmed, Max Anchor, Emiliano Brienza and Vasco Fry.
Brazilian Caio Alexandre, Jamaican international Javain Brown and newest addition Sebastian Berhalter will join the team today after arriving from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Kingston, Jamaica, and Columbus, Ohio respectively. Canadian international Lucas Cavallini greeted the group at the team hotel, while fellow Canadian Cristián Gutiérrez will arrive in California in the coming days.

The first preseason match will see the ’Caps face a mix of Club Tijuana first team and reserve players tomorrow, February 6, at Triton Soccer Stadium. The Blue and White will play their second match on Wednesday, February 9 against USL Championship side New Mexico United. The game will also be played at 1 p.m PT, Triton Soccer Stadium.
In the third match, the ’Caps will face another USL Championship side in San Diego Loyal SC at Torero Stadium on February 12. Tickets to the 7 p.m. PT game will be made available to San Diego Loyal SC 2022 Season Ticket members.
Vancouver will wrap up the trip with a closed-door scrimmage against LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park on February 16. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. PT.

The team will then return to Vancouver following the Galaxy match and resume training at the WFC National Soccer Development Centre at UBC in preparation for their 2022 MLS regular season opener against Columbus Crew on Saturday, February 26. The following week, the ‘Caps will host defending MLS Cup champions New York City FC on Saturday, March 5 in their 2022 MLS home opener at BC Place. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. PT – live on TSN and AM 730.
