VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today the club’s 2013-14 U-16 Residency roster for their upcoming United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) season.
This year’s team will be coached by Rich Fagan – Whitecaps FC U-16 assistant coach the past two seasons. Craig Dalrymple, last season’s U-16 head coach, will continue to monitor player advancement as manager of player performance and recruitment. Complete technical staff announcement to come.
“We have a predominantly younger team this year, but we also have several experienced players to supplement the younger talent,” said Fagan. “Our goal for the upcoming season is to push as many players as we can into the U-18 squad, as well as use the experienced players to support the development of the younger players.”
21 players who played for the 'Caps in the USSDA last season return to this year's squad, while Surrey, BC, native Nikhil Reddy and Vancouver, BC, native Boubacar Diarra have been promoted from the Pre-Residency team to full-time training with the U-16 team.
Also training part-time with the U-16s will be three Pre-Residency players: Burnaby, BC, native Terrell Smith; Surrey, BC native Noah Verhoeven; and Vancouver, BC, native Jonah Hakkinen.
Two new additions join the Whitecaps FC U-16 roster this fall from the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League, including Delta, BC native Patrick Izett of Fusion FC and Surrey, BC native Manraj Bains of Surrey United SC. Izett was formerly with the Whitecaps FC Pre-Residency team in 2011.
15 players on this year's roster came through the BC Soccer Provincial Development Program (PDP) and National Training Centre (NTC), including: Matthew Baldisimo, Terran Campbell; Coquitlam natives Erik Morden and Cole Morokhovich; Delta native Patrick Izett; Kelowna native Dario Zanatta; Langley native John Kasper; North Vancouver native Thomas Gardner; Port Moody native Marcello Polisi; Richmond native Riley Pang; Surrey natives Eric de Graaf, Jeevin Kang, Nikhil Reddy, and Manraj Bains, and Victoria native Joshua Cuthbert.
The U-16 group are heading into their third season in the United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA), with the season opening on Saturday, September 14, on the road against Cal Odyssey. The following day, on September 15, the U-16s face San Jose Earthquakes Academy in the first of two meetings this season.
