BRADENTON, FL - Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-16 Residency remain undefeated at the 2013 United States Soccer Development Academy (USSDA) Winter Showcase after knocking off the Colorado Rapids U-16 Academy side 2-0 Friday at the Premier Sports Complex in Bradenton, Florida.
Striker Aymar Sigue had a game to remember as he potted home both tallies for the Blue and White. The U-16 side has now not conceded a goal in 150 straight minutes of play.
Sigue got things started late in the first half when he took a diagonal ball from Joshua Cuthbert off a swift run and blasted it into the back of the net to give the ‘Caps a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The insurance came at 79 minutes of play, as Sigue iced things for the ‘Caps when Matthew Baldisimo forced a deflection in Vancouver’s own half before sending the former FC Edmonton striker in on a similar run.
Colorado seemed out of sync on this day as the Central Conference, Frontier Division outfit had trouble creating any dangerous opportunities against the swarming midfield play of the ‘Caps.
Whitecaps FC U-16 head coach Rich Fagan said he was pleased with the tenacity and aggressiveness of his side, but still felt like there was room for improvement.
“It was a good performance with a ton of chances for the guys,” Fagan told whitecapsfc.com. “I still felt like we could have done better converting more goals, but I was still very pleased with the effort from the team.”
The U-16s will wrap up the tournament on Sunday morning when they meet East Conference, Atlantic Division side Players Development Academy at 6 a.m. PT.
