VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Monday that centre back Tim Parker has been called up to the United States senior men's national team 30-man roster for their upcoming camp and friendly this month.
Parker will be in Southern California from January 10 through 29, with the 17-day camp set to begin on January 11. Also on the slate is a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina on January 28. Both the camp and the international fixture will be at StubHub Center in Carson.
As a result, the 2017 Jock MacDonald Unsung Hero awardee will miss the early part of the 'Caps training camp, as they begin preseason from January 22 to 31 in Vancouver.
“We’re excited about our 2018 January camp roster. It’s all about the future and opportunity,” said acting US MNT head coach Dave Sarachan. “We clearly feel that we want to have a look at these players that have the chance to be a part of the National Team for a number of years to come. It’s a long journey forward, but this is the first step starting in 2018 for the program and for these players to now get experience at this level.”
Half of the roster are hoping to make their international debut at the end of the month, while 10 are getting their first taste of a senior National Team camp. 21 players on the squad selected are 24 years old and younger, including Parker.
A native of Hicksville, New York, Parker is looking to earn his first cap, after having previously being called up to his national team twice - the January 2016 training camp in California, and the October 2016 friendly versus New Zealand.
Parker is coming off his third year in MLS, making 32 regular season starts and appearances, and also registering his first MLS goal and assist. During the regular season, he was second in MLS with 86 headed clearances and fifth with 73 aerials won, and led his club with 2,880 minutes played, 1,567 touches, and 960 successful passes. In the playoffs, he played every minute of the 'Caps MLS Cup Playoffs run, assisting in the Knockout Round victory over San Jose Earthquakes.
